New Green Building At Housing Project by Cecilia M. Vega, SF Chronicle, October 7, 2005
The Alice Griffith Opportunity Center, named for the housing development in which it is located, is the first environmentally green building in the state to be erected on public housing property, city officials said Thursday. The two-story structure was built from environmentally friendly and recycled materials, including cabinetry made of fabricated wheat materials. The prefabricated structure cost $400,000 to purchase, renovate and deliver to the neighborhood by barge from China Basin, where it was built. It was paid for by a US Housing and Urban Development grant.
