Hope SF

San Francisco Public HousingFaced with the steady decline in federal allocations to maintain and rebuild distressed public housing developments nationally, the City of San Francisco has created HOPE SF, allocating $95million dollars to rebuild low-density public-housing sites as mixed-income communities at a scale similar to typical San Francisco neighborhoods and without displacing current residents. In practical terms, we will rebuild all 2,500 (guaranteed 1:1) of the existing distressed and antiquated public housing units and add as many as 3,500 new market-rate and affordable homes. COO understands that the physical environment plays an enormous role in how families perceive their life chances and opportunities to succeed. Our objective is to create exceptional communities instead of having a few families be the exception in a chaotic environment. HOPE SF begins with the rebuild of 5 public housing sites (Hunters View, Alice Griffith, Sunnydale, Potrero Hill, Westside Courts). This innovative effort dismantles these current pockets of concentrated poverty and transforms them into vibrant healthy communities were kids and families thrive.
